Winters Bone

The first 10 seconds of this film starts with an extreme long-shot of the mise-en-scene revealing the cold, damp trees and mountainside with high key lighting and the diegetic sound of light rain, this is pathetic fallacy as the weather has set the mood of the film. Shortly following a non-diegetic sound of an old women singing almost in a sinister, creepy style over the top. This makes the audience feel on edge as they don't know what to expect.

Then it changes to a long shot of two children, a boy and a girl, having fun, jumping on a trampoline displaying the wooden house in the background. The happy emotions of the two children is in contrast to the dull scenery and woodland area in which they live.

The hand held camera gives a sense of realism as the kids are having to make their own fun to entertain themselves. They own a lot of dogs too which could suggest they are lonely and need comfort. There is a tilted pan from right to left which highlights the little boys feet as he is about to jump onto his skateboard. As well as this the lyrics of the song in the background has repeated. This all could forebode that life there is the same every day, nothing new and exciting happens, it's always dull and slightly boring.

The scene changes to having low key lighting and it is a mid-shot of the young girl washing her hands. The fact it is a mid-shot may suggest the room isn't very big, this implies the house may too be small as they can't afford a better life. The camera then cuts to the two younger children lying on the sofa trying to sleep, this makes me feel sorry for her as it implies that is what she uses for a bed. The girl is wrapped in the blanket suggesting that she is cold and they may not have any type of heating, the blanket is bright red which could symbolise danger or something bad is going to happen.

There is another mid shot of the eldest daughter cooking dinner for everyone, this implies that they have to do everything themselves. She then handed the little girl a tub of food for the dog after smelling it first to see whether it hadn't gone off. This highlights that they may have to saver food in order for it to last longer as they can't afford to waste it. This illustrates that they have a harder life than most people and implies they may be working class or below.

The film then cuts and changes to a pan from right to left and stops at the two shot of the oldest daughter brushing her mothers hair implying that she doesn't just do all the house work, she also has to look after her mum. It is as if the oldest daughter is more the motherly figure instead of her actual mum. I think this because for whole induction of the film we see the eldest looking after her two younger siblings and doing all the housework, including cooking. Although it is only until after the induction we (the audience) see the real mother, ironically having things done for her. This emphasises the point about the children having to do things themselves and having to mature at a young age in order to prepare them for later life.

Audience

H20 Just Add Water
The main target audience for this television programme is 8-13year old girls, C-E on the socio-economic model. The target audience would be attracted by the way this programme is different and some girls could relate in the sense of having a big secret of which they can't tell anyone about. Also, children usually have a vast imagination and with H20 Just Add Water being about three best friends who are mermaids, this creates excitement as it isn't real, just like an imagination isn't real.
The uses and gratifications for this audience is for personal identity- having boyfriends and the responsibility of keeping a huge secret. Furthermore, this programme is for entertainment purposes as it is interesting and allows one to escape from reality after a hard days work.
The audience who would take the preferred reading of this television programme would be young girls. However, typical teenage lads would take the oppositional reading.

Fetty Wap "679"
The typical audience for this song would be teenage boys from the age of 13 to 19 years old, in groups C-E on the socio-economic model. This song attracts this certain type of audience due to it having a rap style being usually about girls. This song objectifies women, we know this because in the music video the women are in bikinis looking sexy as if that is all they're good at. However this is typically what lads are interested in, therefore this song attracts them. The uses and gratification for this audience is purely for entertainment purposes due to being able to relax and escape from reality when listening to it. Although the preferred audience for this song is teenage boys and some teenage girls, the oppositional audience would be old people, stereotypically 40 years and older.

Cosmopolitan
The target audience for this text is women of all ages, 20 years and older also B-D on the socio-economic model. This text attracts this audience as it is a magazine purely for women, the content inside the Cosmopolitan involves gossip about celebrities, it gives advise about fashion, beauty, keeping fit, how to transform 'your look' etc. The uses and gratifications for this audience would be for personal identity, to allow them to identify themselves as part of an audience. This magazine can also be used for social integration as is causes discussion between friends and companions due to the information given in the Cosmopolitan, being so interesting. All ages of women would be the preferred readers of this magazine, however men in general will be opposed to this magazine as there is no section for men.

Representation

The Inbetweeners

The representation being created in this television show is white British, working class, teenage lads at sixth form. The show has stereotyped typical teenage boys from the age of 16-19years of age. However this isn't challenging the original stereotype because teenage boys are already thought of as mischievous and 'rule breakers'. This representation is being created through the characters and how they forebode their working class status. One way they illustrate this is how they all swear an awful lot in every sentence which is see as a lack of vocabulary. Also, the way they don't obey all school rules, such as skipping school when they have no reason to, this then adds to the stereotype of breaking rules. Not only just school rules, they also break the law doing underage drinking, this could influence the audience. Additionally, the way in which they dress isn't smart. Jay for example, doesn't have his tie and top button done up properly, this emphasises the assumption of teenage lads being scruffy. Finally, the Inbetweeners is set is in West London, however this could give teenage boys from this area a bad reputation of being like the four boys from this programme, which isn't always the case.

The Catherine Tate Show
Catherine Tate imitates a nan-like figure, who would be a working class, white British women. This stereotype is being challenged as she acts in a way an elderly woman wouldn't usually act, for example swearing an awful lot. This representation has been created due to Catherine wearing knitted cardigans and talking in a cackled voice to illustrate her age. Catherine is also wearing a mask in order for her face to look pale and wrinkly. This highlights the aging of the skin to make it seem more realistic.

Vogue magazine
This magazine represents fashion for women, mainly aimed at middle class or first class. There are many models of different race in this magazine, however the majority of the models shown are white. The age of most of the models in this magazine are between 25-35 years old. They are all very slim and pretty, with perfect skin and hair. This magazine is how you would expect a fashion magazine to be therefore it is quite stereotypical. However, the models do not represent the way in which women nowadays look as the average size of women is 14 and the size of the models is around 8-10. Although the clothing of some of these models are very unique, this creates interest in the public eye as it is different. Along side that, they then wear the product of which they are modelling, this makes the product look expensive implying, it is aimed more at women in middle or first class.
