Representation

The Inbetweeners

The representation being created in this television show is white British, working class, teenage lads at sixth form. The show has stereotyped typical teenage boys from the age of 16-19years of age. However this isn't challenging the original stereotype because teenage boys are already thought of as mischievous and 'rule breakers'. This representation is being created through the characters and how they forebode their working class status. One way they illustrate this is how they all swear an awful lot in every sentence which is see as a lack of vocabulary. Also, the way they don't obey all school rules, such as skipping school when they have no reason to, this then adds to the stereotype of breaking rules. Not only just school rules, they also break the law doing underage drinking, this could influence the audience. Additionally, the way in which they dress isn't smart. Jay for example, doesn't have his tie and top button done up properly, this emphasises the assumption of teenage lads being scruffy. Finally, the Inbetweeners is set is in West London, however this could give teenage boys from this area a bad reputation of being like the four boys from this programme, which isn't always the case.

The Catherine Tate Show
Catherine Tate imitates a nan-like figure, who would be a working class, white British women. This stereotype is being challenged as she acts in a way an elderly woman wouldn't usually act, for example swearing an awful lot. This representation has been created due to Catherine wearing knitted cardigans and talking in a cackled voice to illustrate her age. Catherine is also wearing a mask in order for her face to look pale and wrinkly. This highlights the aging of the skin to make it seem more realistic.

Vogue magazine
This magazine represents fashion for women, mainly aimed at middle class or first class. There are many models of different race in this magazine, however the majority of the models shown are white. The age of most of the models in this magazine are between 25-35 years old. They are all very slim and pretty, with perfect skin and hair. This magazine is how you would expect a fashion magazine to be therefore it is quite stereotypical. However, the models do not represent the way in which women nowadays look as the average size of women is 14 and the size of the models is around 8-10. Although the clothing of some of these models are very unique, this creates interest in the public eye as it is different. Along side that, they then wear the product of which they are modelling, this makes the product look expensive implying, it is aimed more at women in middle or first class.
